A couple of days ago i received in my order of Philips SHH7810 in-ear headset from Flipkart.com. They delivered it in like 2 days as promised. I love their service and sometimes the price is also very reasonable as compare to brick-and-mortar stores, which was true in this case.I got it for 985 INR,which i think was pretty reasonable.
The SHH7810 in my opinion is one of the cheapest and quality headsets with inline microphone that money can buy,I had done some research prior to finalizing this one, i coudn’t find any decent brand(aka sennheiser, skullcandy, sony, etc) earphones with inline mic and call.answer button, there was one from skullcandy around the 1k INR range but i was using the skullcandy ink’d for the past 8 months which was very similiar,I wanted some change and this had to be it.
It arrived in a nice little flipkart bubble wrap lined mailer bag.The contents inside were nicely protected and did not show any signs of stress from the shipping .
I sometimes hate the amount of packaging that comes with the earphones, there’s too much plastic and takes a lot of effort to open it up. 😦
The contents of the package include the standard fare 3 different sizes silicone ear plugs. And an interesting compatibility adapter that allows the headset to work with almost all of the commonly available phones with 3.5mm standard connector
I had a Motorola so i did not need the adapter!
Plugged it into my atrix 2 ,there were no issues ,the headset was recognized . Tried playing some tunes and sounded good and was stereo made some calls.I was able to pick up calls with the call/end button,Mic also worked good.
the thing that i hate about this headset is the inline volume control! I was fooled by the images on flipkart and other places! I had thought it was a push button based solution, similiar to the ones found in the inbox headsets that come with phones.Sigh! it was just a crappy volume slider which instead of sending a command to the phone to change the system volume of the phone just fiddles with the signal by changing the inline resistance which is a BAD way to do it. And from past experience is one very big potential point of failure! .In headphones these things are the first to fail. I hope that Philips has designed it well enough ,and it lasts atleast 6 months without failure!. If the headset lasts 6 months of rough use (or rather abuse!) i would call it well worth the money!
Moving on to the sound quality of these phones, the overall sound quality is good for the price. The bass i feel sometimes is as good as Sennheisers and the Skullcandys from a higher price range.Sometimes though i feel the bass is too much and it overpowers the mids ,and the mids get supressed. The Highs and decent and very seldom tend to crack very very slightly only if you listen with a very keen ear,you wont notice it otherwise!.Now there is a very important thing about these phones that i found about as i used them,You need to get the correct fit to understand the true capability of the drivers. Which is somewhat difficult sometimes since the design is a bit weird with the angled drivers and all, which philips claims to deliver better sound directly to the ear drums.Frankly,i found it a bit uncomfortable to wear, might be a new earphone thing and might take some time for my ears to get used to. But not as comfortable as my first pair of in-ears my JVC fx-33Bs! I really Miss them!
One thing i really like about the headset is ,it has small bumps on the left earpeice. This helps you to recognize the left and the right earphone even in the dark. This is
Final Words: Really good bass,OK mids and highs.OK build quality,Crappy volume control, takes some time getting used to the fit, great compatibility with almost all modern smart phones on the planet(including the iPhone!).Great value for the Price!
Let me know what you think about it in the comments below!! 🙂
Update:Tested the headset with a a bunch of phones here’s the result
Phone Result
iPhone Works pretty Well.
Samsung Galaxy S i9003 Worked well. Without the bundled adapter. (The adapter was meant for samsung ,nokia and sony ericsson phones!)
Sony Xperia S Did Not Work ,even with and without the bundled adapter a ‘headset incompatible ‘message shows up!.I was expecting it to work.
The package did not mention anything about this! They should’ve specify the exact phone models that are compatible!
I am planning to buy this headphones but after reading its volume control review I am confused now, tell me which skull candy with mic earphones u talked about in this review. is it better than phillips, can u specify the model number.!!
Btw I am using Blackberry Curve 9220. Shud i go for Nokia wireless bh 503, its also under 1000rs.
Hey AJ,
http://www.flipkart.com/skullcandy-s2indy-045-headset/p/itmd8gxyfmkphcyw
http://www.flipkart.com/skullcandy-s2bldy-129-in-the-ear-headphone/p/itmd54jmha2y6hfp
Here are a couple of earphones from skullcandy they are around 1200 INR. Both have an in line microphone. The one i had used earlier was similkar to the s2indy model and the performance was decent and is worth the money.
I have no idea about the compatibility with the your blackberry.
The nokia bh-503 is on the ear design and the sound quality and noise isolation might not be similar to what you get with an in-the-ear headset. If you want a wireless in-the-ear solution you can also check out noki bh- 111
Let me know which ear phones you finalise!
Is this philips headset compatible with sony ericsson live with walkman(WT19i)?
I had tried it out on a Sony Xperia S and it did NOT work with that…havent tried it with the WT19i yet…
Yesterday evning i got this headset @1035 from showroom, its working with iPhone, sony ericsson live with walkman, nokia 5800, micromax , mp3 player as well as pc. The volume controller is not as good as i expected to be but is helpful while driving. Everything is good EXCEPT SOUND QUALITY.
this is the worst headset when considering sound quality. Even Nokia WH-205 sounds much better than this one. The sound is not balanced, left one is louder than right side. when u put the earphone in ur ear the left one makes a craking sound like as if it is going to tear the diaphragm.
Overall build quality is good, wire is durable. the headset looks nice but the only cons: very bad sound quality(low bass).
The sound is so horrible that within 24 hrs i have 2 go to service center to get it replaced.
yesterday evening i bought it n today morning i gave to service center for replacement. they assured me to get a new one within 7 days.
lets see it this time if it sounds good.
i m not totally against this product, this is a good for a headset under rs1200 with volume controller. if the sound quality was a bit better(atleast balanced) then this product is the best u can get in market in this price range.
Pros: good built quality, durable, it has a in-line volume controller
Cons: bad quality sound, lacks bass, it doesnt fit properly in ears.
{{{IMP: apple headset volume controller works with apple devices only while android headset with volume controller as the galaxy s3 headset works with selected android devices only. BUT this philips headset with volume controller works with any phone with 3.5mm jack since it is a resistance based volume controller and inside the box the extra adapter is there to work with other phones also.}}} so give it a try- for those who wants a single headset that is compatible with almost all phones with a 3.5mm jack.
$$$$$ BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK!! $$$$$
It might be a faulty unit that you got. Get it replaced from the service center ASAP!
Even i doubt the durability of the headset. With rough use i dont expect it last for more than like 6-8 months.Especially given the design of the volume controller that is prone to wear out easily.
Mr.Murlidharshenoy can u kindly tell about the sound quality of the headset that u got. Is it a balanced sound or one side is louder than the other? quality of bass?
Coz i got a defective piece.
I hope u got a good one.
Hey Pronay,
Sorry to hear that. 😦
The sound quality is decent, nothing spectacular and did not expect much for the price .
I did not have any issues with the balance and both the earpeices were equally lound. It might be due to a faulty volume controller that might be causing the imbalance .
Also one problem that i have is that during calls ,sometimes the people on the other side complain that they hear an echo of themseleves instead of my voice.I’m not sure if thats a issue with the headset or with my phone. Will have to confirm that after testing with another headset
Let me know how your new unit performs when it comes in!
ya sure, i will get it next week possibly.
have u heard about Tekfusion twinwoofers? its there in flipkart @1599.
The reviews says that it is a very good in earphone which can be compared to Beats earphones. The amazing thing is that it is made by an Indian manufacturer in Bangalore.
tekfusion twinwoofers seem good going by the reviews, haven’t tried it out for myself though.
Also i’m not sure how their after sales service is ,since they are a relatively new company….
Are You planning to get one?
ya i m planning for one but there r few negative reviews which tell that it is quite problematic to get a replacement, thats why i m scared to go for this one.
In case of Philips it was not an issue. I went to the service center and showed the product, immediately they agreed for replacement free of cost.
In a flipkart review someone mentioned that to get a replacement u have to send it to Tekfusion which is in Bangalore. You have to pay for the courier and have to follow their all terms n conditions, etc.
few days back i called their office, they told that they will ship it to my address for free. payment method is through credit card, again a scary thing coz this is booking through phone n u won’t get a bill immediately after payment. if they dont ship the product again a matter of concern.
if u buy from flipkart atleast they will show in the site the status of the courier.
these problems apart the reviews says that it is a bass monster. it can even compete with the IEMs 2 or 3 times its price like bose, sennheisers, beats, Ultimate ears etc. But the thing is u have to be lucky enough to get a good n functional earphone at the first chance otherwise u have to run around for replacement like me.
That is what i feared! Although the quality of the product might be good, since the company is still in infancy .getting service will be problematic.
There are other In ear buds you can check out,Sennheiser cx-180 is really good, creative ep-630 is also decent,Philips shh3580 is another decent headset with mic and also has call/answer button.
I would not suggest Skullcandy as i’ve had a pretty bad experience with them and they wear out pretty easily
suggest me some good IEM within Rs2000.
From where do u got JVC?
I searched many places but didnt get. Instead they r giving me JBL which i dont want
I used to have JVC HA-FX33b ,Which were an awesome pair of earphones, the level of isolation was like none other and since they used some form or PU/rubber foam based memory foam material instead of the commonly used silicone rubber plugs. After like 2 years of rough use they cable gave way and one of the earbuds died. I guess now JVC has replaced it with JVC HA-FX35,they too seem good. And the price too is around 10USD. I’m not sure if there are any official distributors of JVC earphones here in india but a quick google for “jvc marshmallow india” showed up a lot of places where they could be bought for around 500 INR.
How is the bass of JVC ? Is it more than sony? I need some foam eartips tell me where can i get it.
Did you got ur JVC from other country?
A relative had got it from the US for me.
No clue about the availability of foam tips.
As i said earlier ,quality of JVC was pretty good comparable to the cx-180….
How is sony XB series earphones? Sony mentions them as extra bass. I saw sony MDR-XB21 @1990 . Will it be good? Actually i need more bass.
I’ve tried on SONY MDREX60LP earphones and i really did not like them very much,The bass was not that great, the mids were ok and the high were too bright. No idea about this one though….
I m also searching for a headset for android which has remote like apple. Recently samsung is making that type of headset which they r shipping with galaxy s3 and Note. I m not getting it in showrooms as well as service centers also. Is there any other headset like that for android which has remote for vol+ and vol-
i guess there are only a few such headsets in the market. Klipsch Image S4A is one such headset.I coudnt find any in the 1000-2000 price range
At last got the refund from philips after one month.
They told that the headset is out of stock!
Got my money back after lots of troubles.
First they were not ready to pay, they told to wait for few more days.
Like this one month went on.
At last when I forced then only they gave the refund.
Very bad service by philips.
You r lucky that u got a good headset.
I’ve owned a couple of philips headphones . Did not have any sorta trouble whatsoever. That’s my experience with them, uptill now atleast…..
I got the Tekfusion Twinwoofers(White) and Sony MDR-XB30EX(Black).
cool congrats! Hws the twinwoofers?? do let us know!

hope this helps! Let me know how it goes!
Twinwoofers are far better than sony XB series which costs@1990.
twinwoofers costs only Rs1499, u can get in flipkart. This one is cheaper and has a balanced bass and treble.
Sony is also not bad but the bass is overpowering mids and highs. so overall sound clarity is not so much in Sony. Only thing , U get a lot of bass.
The bass and treble in twinwoofers are well balanced so u get a deep bass along with good clarity and very small details of music which is missing in Sony.
Sony has a booming bass only for extreme bass lovers.
I really like the twinwoofers. But i don’t know how long will it last.
I got the white chrome edition and it gets dirty within a week.
wire is also not that good, normal ones.
While in Sony u get THICK FLAT TANGLE FREE CABLE which is obviously more durable than Tekfusion.
do you still hav that adapter with u ?? i need it .. if u do plz contact me on 8956107448 .. Mayank
hey mayank,
i dont have that adapter, i returned it back to philips.
But i can make that type of adapter. if u need i can help u
